Where to Celebrate Diwali in Dubai in 2026

Where to Celebrate Diwali in Dubai in 2026

Your first Diwali in Dubai is strange in a way nobody warns you about.

The sweets are available. The gold shops are full. You can buy diyas in Meena Bazaar and rangoli colours three streets from your flat. Everything is here except the thing you are actually missing, which is a house full of people who have known you since you were four.

The good news is that Dubai does Diwali properly, and there is somewhere for you to be.

The short answer

Diwali 2026 is on Sunday 8 November. In Dubai, celebrate at Hindu Temple Dubai in Jebel Ali, the free Noor festival at Souk Al Seef (7 and 8 November), Global Village (6 to 10 November, with a 600-drone show on Sunday 8 November at 8pm) and free community events in 17 Dubai Holding neighbourhoods. Shop at Meena Bazaar and the Gold Souk.

Diwali 2026 dates

  • Dhanteras: Friday 6 November. This is the night the Gold Souk fills up.
  • Diwali: Sunday 8 November.
  • Lakshmi Puja muhurat: published timings for Dubai differ, roughly 5.35pm to 7.56pm, so check with your family priest or with the temple you are going to.

The muhurat discrepancy is worth knowing about rather than guessing at. Different panchangs calculate it differently for this longitude.

Hindu temples for Diwali in Dubai and Abu Dhabi

Hindu Temple Dubai, Worship Village, Jebel Ali

The main Diwali destination in Dubai, and free to enter. Sunday 8 November is one of the busiest nights of its year. Booking a visit through hindutempledubai.com is recommended on festival days, and you will get a QR code to scan at the gate.

Two practical things. Parking inside Worship Village fills early on puja night, so arrive well before the muhurat. The temple's regular hours end at 8.30pm, so check its Diwali timings before planning a later visit. And the queue is at its longest in the hour either side of the muhurat itself, which is exactly when most people try to arrive.

If you are going alone, go earlier rather than later. The crowd is gentler and you are more likely to get talking to someone.

BAPS Hindu Mandir, Abu Dhabi

Worth the drive if you have the day free. Celebrations run from 6 to 10 November, with pujas, the Maha Annakut food display and cultural performances. The mandir opens on Monday 9 November, which it normally would not.

Three things to get right before you go. Entry is free but registration is compulsory through mandir.ae or the Mandir Abu Dhabi app, and there are no walk-ins. Carry your Emirates ID or passport. Dress modestly, with shoulders and knees covered.

If you cannot make the drive, the Dhanteras puja is livestreamed on Friday 6 November at 8.30pm.

Diwali festivals and events in Dubai

Noor: Festival of Lights, Souk Al Seef

Free, from 6pm to 11pm on 7 and 8 November, beside Dubai Creek. Expect drummers, a Diwali procession, dance and live music on the waterfront.

This is the one our members tend to pick when they want atmosphere rather than a formal programme. Creek-side in the evening, with the souk lit up, is about as close to a festival night at home as Dubai gets. It is also the easiest of these to do on your own, because you can walk through it at your own pace without needing to be part of a group.

Global Village

Diwali runs from 6 to 10 November, with entry from Dh25 covering all the Diwali activities.

Two things are worth planning around. A 600-drone show on Sunday 8 November at 8pm, which is the main sky event in the city this year. And a Baithak music evening on Friday 6 November at 8pm, which is the quieter, more traditional of the two.

The Diwali mela runs alongside the India Pavilion. Go on a weeknight if crowds are not your thing, because the weekend either side of Diwali is one of the busiest of the season.

Dubai Festival of Lights

The city's official Diwali programme, running from 2 to 12 November. Workshops, music, dance and festive mall offers at venues across Dubai, and most of it free.

It is spread across the city rather than held in one place, so check what is happening nearest you rather than travelling for it.

Your own neighbourhood

Dubai Holding runs free Diwali events across 17 communities, including JVC, Al Furjan, Discovery Gardens and Jumeirah Islands. Dubai Holding Communities has the full list and dates.

If you live in one of those, this is the easiest Diwali plan available to you. You can walk there, you will recognise faces from your building, and there is no commitment beyond turning up. For anyone nervous about going to something alone, a neighbourhood event is a far softer place to start than a citywide one.

Are there Diwali fireworks in Dubai in 2026?

As of 4 November, no citywide Diwali fireworks have been announced in Dubai.

The main sky event this year is the 600-drone show at Global Village on Sunday 8 November at 8pm. Some individual venues and communities may put on their own displays, so it is worth checking locally.

We will update this page if fireworks are confirmed.

Where to shop for Diwali in Dubai

Meena Bazaar, Bur Dubai

Diyas, rangoli colours, sweets and festive clothing, and the closest thing Dubai has to a Diwali market at home.

Go on a weekday morning if you possibly can. From Thursday onwards it is shoulder to shoulder and parking becomes genuinely difficult.

Gold Souk, Deira

Dhanteras falls on Friday 6 November, and that is the Gold Souk's busiest evening of the festive season.

Worth going even if you are not buying. The atmosphere on Dhanteras night is a thing in itself, and it is one of the few places in Dubai where the festival feels like it is happening on the street rather than inside a venue.

Diwali dinners in Dubai

Four Diwali menus worth knowing about. Book ahead.

Where When Price
Purani Dilli, Sheikh Zayed Road Sunday 8 November Dh129
Purani Dilli, Bur Dubai 7 and 8 November Dh125
Rohini, JLT 5 to 10 November From Dh149
Gymkhana, DIFC Sunday 8 November only Dh495

If this is your first Diwali away from home

Here is the part the listings do not cover.

A lot of women spend their first Diwali in Dubai quietly, in a clean flat, on a video call to a house that is far too loud. It is a specific kind of homesick and it catches people who thought they were fine.

Two things help, and neither of them is a temple visit.

The first is to have somewhere to go that expects you. A community Diwali event, a neighbourhood gathering, a friend's place. Something in the diary with your name attached to it.

The second is to make something. Light the diyas even if there is nobody to see them. Cook the one dish you always ate. Wear the thing you would have worn at home. Rituals do not need an audience to work.

You are not the only person in this city having a quiet Diwali. You are just the only one who thinks she is.

Indian Women in Dubai is celebrating Diwali on Saturday, 14 November at Jumeirah, Dubai. Save your spot. Most people who come arrive on their own.

If you are new here and the bigger problem is that you do not know anybody yet, we wrote a separate guide on how to make friends in Dubai when you know nobody.
